This week has seen record breaking temperatures in parts of San Diego. Not only are we getting heat advisories, but also flash flood warnings for part of the County, and the mountains are getting rain. Luckily, the weather at our office in Mission Valley includes some cloud cover, so we are not as warm as we have been, and its expected to start cooling down into next week. When the mercury rises this high, it is important to stay healthy and keep the whole family cool. In addition to drinking water, staying out of the sun, and taking it easy, there are lots of cool things to do around San Diego.
Cool Zones. A program within San Diego County includes air-conditioned locations open to the public, allowing those without air conditioning at home an opportunity to rest and cool off. Locations include recreation and community centers as well as Libraries. The libraries have events for children, such as “Crafternoon Thursdays” at the Clairemont Library.
Museum of Contemporary Art. On the third Thursday of every month from 5 pm – 7 pm, museum admission is free at both the downtown and La Jolla locations.
The Sky Tonight. The Palomar College Planetarium offers a weekly exploration of the night sky Fridays at 7 p.m. Admission is a small fee, and the rooftop telescopes are available for viewing, weather permitting.
SaltDog Classic. If outdoors are more your style, have fun at Torrey Pines State Beach with the sit-upon surf kayak competition this weekend. There will be food, music, and its free to attend.
These are just some of the many activities in San Diego, some of which are free or low cost. There are multiple community farmers markets, beer fests, theater, and music. Be sure to stay safe and have fun!
