Recently, news broke about the famous guitarist, Slash, filing for divorce from his wife of 13 years. Slash reportedly filed for divorce in 2010 but dismissed the case after the parties reconciled. This is not uncommon, and as public policy, the court seeks to ensure parties have had an opportunity to reconcile before a divorce is granted. Some cases are dismissed, the parties work hard on their relationship, and there is no need for a dissolution of marriage. However, sometimes reconciliation is not possible, and one or both parties seek a divorce or legal separation.
In cases for dissolution of marriage, unlike some other civil cases, parties are not limited to one bite at the apple. if reconciliation does not work, the party can usually open a new case.
